Brides Guide to Wedding Photography

Wedding Photos Online - The Ceremony

The Wedding Photos Online series is a collection of professional wedding pictures by Andrew Gardner, owner of The Boutique Photography Company Ltd.

Introduction

Before the ceremony I have a look around the room to find the best positions and speak with the Minister or Registrar to see if they have any house rules.

The size of the room will dictate how much I'm able to move around. If it's only a small wedding, changing positions would be noticeable and distracting for the guests.

bride and groomHere, I positioned myself in the top right corner to photograph the bride during the service.
wedding ceremonyWith a good quality zoom lens I was able to capture this shot from the same position.
outdoor weddingMy camera can lock onto a moving subject and keep it in focus as it moves towards me - very useful for brides walking down the aisle! Remember to look up when you're walking, don't look down at the ground!
Outdoor weddingI think this is a lovely picture. The Minister must have made a joke for the groom to be looking at him like that, and you can just tell how in love the bride is.
Candid wedding photoIntimate moments like this often go unnoticed. This is the groom's sister and husband, who have just had their first anniversary. I know this because I photographed their wedding as well!
Father of the BrideThis was a special photo for the wedding couple - the father of the bride.
Outdoor weddingBeing an outdoor wedding, I was able to easily and discreetly walk around the seating area to change viewpoints. I used my long lens from the back so as not to stand in the middle of the aisle.
Groom and Best ManThese guys have just sent the page boy (the bride and groom's son) walking down the aisle. I anticipated what was going to happen, so I framed the shot and waited for the right expressions.
Candid Wedding Photos of GuestsMore candid moments, this time from the groom's parents.
Wedding CeremonyDuring the ceremony I'm pretty much constantly looking through my camera, in order to take photos like this one.
Wedding CeremonyI'm not afraid to crop photos so they're square. It works well here because both the bride and groom's elbows are at right angles. They form a natural square and make the composition even and balanced.
