Saving Money On Wedding Photography -
An Insider Guide...
Saving money on wedding photography is something pretty much every bride wants to do! But you
probably also want beautiful wedding photos that you'll treasure forever.
So there'll have to be a compromise here somewhere!
Quality always costs more, but there are ways of doing deals so you end up with cheap wedding
photography.
The golden rule of negotiating (with anyone) is that parties must walk away happy. The deal should
benefit both sides, so neither person is getting one up on the other.
With this in mind, wedding photographers should be happy to do a deal that will end up increasing their
sales or getting more bookings for the future. It's a competitive market, and I personally believe we need
to be more open-minded in our approach to doing business.
So here's my ways of saving money on wedding photography list, which should provide benefits for you
and your photographer:
1. Gift registry system
There's a big trend in alternative gift lists at the moment. I've seen couples that have requested
donations to charity, as well as camping equipment for a four-week safari honeymoon!
So why not ask your guests to contribute to your wedding album? Your album is something that's going
to become priceless over time, so it's worth investing in quality.
How do I do this?
Some photographers already have a proper gift registry system, where your guests can purchase gift
vouchers online or over the phone. It could either be a monetary amount, or for a set number of pictures
in your album.
If they don't have a set-up like this, you could always just request money and put it towards your album
yourselves.

How about asking if your photographer will give a voucher or free photograph to the person that's buying
a photo for your album? Smart business people know that while some people will only claim their
freebie, others will buy additional products as well.
2. Favours
Instead of spending a lot of money on something consummable for your wedding favours, how about
something more permanent?
You could make an arrangement where your photographer provides some nicely designed vouchers to
use as favours. These would entitle each guest to a free photo from your wedding.
(I know most people
take their own photos at weddings, but a professional photographer's pictures should be good enough for
people to still want them!)
What you get in return would be up to you to negotiate.

Rule number 1 for wedding photographers is to not discount, but give away freebies. You might find
someone willing to discount their prices, but a better tactic might be for you to try to negotiate for free
additonal products or upgrades.
3. Referrals
If you have friends that are also getting married, see if you can negotiate a referral fee for recommending
them. This means if your friend books your photographer, he'll pay you a commission.
If you think that a lot of photographers charge £1500+, a fee of around £50 shouldn't be unreasonable.
This method is like getting a cashback after you've invested in your wedding photography.
Or, see if you can get extra products included in your photography package.
This has been a very open and honest discussion about saving money on wedding photography. I hope
you find a photographer that is willing to work with your budget. Also, I hope that you won't write off a
photographer just because of their prices.
Don't think you can only afford cheap wedding photographers. Try using some of these techniques in
order to get the best possible photography for your wedding. It will be worth it!
