Mid-Range Wedding Photography

With this guide to mid-range wedding photography I want to give you a rough idea of what you can expect to get for your money.

There are a number of factors that determine wedding photography prices:

• How many hours you have the photographer for and how much he charges for his time;
• How many photos are included and how much the photographer thinks they're worth;
• The size/quality/brand of wedding album;
• Any additional products such as framed prints, proof albums or DVD slideshows.

So, based on these factors, this is what a typical mid-range package might look like:

1. Cost - £695-£995

2. Attendance - Bridal preparations up to sitting down for dinner, or possibly all day. Maybe even two photographers.

3. Photos - 30-80 8"x6" or larger.

4. Album - A contemporary styled ready-made matted album.

5. Additional Products - Online gallery to view and purchase prints, one or two large prints, proof CD of images.

Mid-range packages cost more than budget packages because the photographer spends more time at your wedding, you get more photos and a better album, and there'll probably be a few extras thrown in as well.

At this level I assume you have a reasonable wedding budget. You might be in a position to want slightly more than the photographer is offering in the package, so you should find out how flexible it is.

For example, you may want more photos in your album, a bigger album or a different style of wedding album altogether. You should find all this out before making a final decision on which photographer you'll hire.

Wedding photographers know that if they shoot a wedding for 8 hours and only include 30 photos for the album, there's a big opportunity for additional sales. So bear in mind that you might want more photos than are included in your package and reserve some money for them after the wedding.
