What Do I Look For In An Ideal Client?

I firmly believe in the notion of the ideal client. Everyone's different, and some people work together better than others.

I also believe that working with someone who is a less than ideal client is fundamentally wrong. The service-provider would end up resenting working for that person, they wouldn't put in their best effort, and worst of all they wouldn't care if they weren't doing their best.

I don't want to end up like that and do half-hearted jobs. I want to genuinely enjoy working with my clients. So I've come with a list of three characteristics I look for in wedding couples, before agreeing to work with them.

1. Trust

A couple should trust in my experience and expertise as a wedding photographer, to give them a fantastic product and superb customer service.

At the end of the day, my job is to produce wedding albums with wow factor. That's what you should expect.


If I have high expectations to live up to, it forces me to put in my absolute best. That's what you deserve.


2. Fun

I'm a light-hearted, optimistic person. I want to work with similar people. I know that planning a wedding can be stressful, but it's important to keep perspective. A wedding should be a fun, joyous celebration.




Here's a secret - weddings hardly ever go according to plan! My wife and I were at a wedding two weeks before our own, and the bride was 22 minutes late! (We found out later the wedding car had broken down). All the while my wife promised me she'd be on time. But was she? The whole bridal party decided last minute to have manicures at the salon, making them 23 minutes late...

Moral of the story - don't expect the day to run like clockwork, accept it. Concentrate on celebrating and having fun. The day will be much more enjoyable and the photos will be better ;-)


3. Exceed

I need to exceed your expectations.

No photographers' wedding photos are 100% technically perfect. It's just not possible (unless you want to spend the whole day being photographed to get it right).

I believe the content and capturing the 'decisive moment' (Henri Cartier-Bresson) are more important than a technically correct image. So if you look at my photos on this site and think, 'that's a bit blurred' or 'that one's a bit grainy', it's unlikely I'll be able to exceed your expectations.

If you look at my photos and think 'wow they're beautiful', I know I can make you a wedding album with wow factor.
