The Da Vinci Code of wedding photographySome photographs have a secret hidden meaning. Only those in the know will recognise it. But for those who do, that photograph is very, very special. An example of this happened to me several years ago. Firstly, I was photographing a wedding where the couple had hired an illusionist to entertain their guests. He was doing close-up magic, as well as some weird Derren Brown-type stuff. I was taking pictures from behind him, focussing on the bride and groom. I took this one shot (that I was particularly pleased with) of the groom laughing and the bride with a look of absolute disbelief and amazement. I wasn't paying attention to what he was doing, so I thought it was a clever card trick or something. Several weeks later (the couple went on a four-week safari honeymoon!), when I was showing them the photos, they told me a lovely story about that specific image. You see, the illusionist had asked the bride to think of a friend they'd invited to their wedding, but couldn't make it for some reason. And she did. Then, he correctly guessed that person's name! So when they saw that photo they instantly remembered that moment and thought of their friend who couldn't attend their wedding. They asked for it to be a lot bigger in their album, because of the secret hidden meaning behind it. Good job I was in the right place at the right time. Warmly, Andrew As subtle as Jordon's Range RoverA headline in today's newspaper caught my eye. "Katie Price: I fear my kids will be snatched Jordan reveals terror as cops examine GPS tracker device found on car" "That's terrible," I thought to myself. Seriously, how low will some people stoop? Then I saw a photo of Jordon's car. I bright...baby pink...Range Rover. Not exactly subtle or discreet. But then again I wouldn't expect anything less. (A good example of personal branding!) So now I'm thinking, whoever's bugged Jordon's car is just being lazy. I mean, it wouldn't exactly be hard to follow a pink Range Rover... It sticks out like...well, Jordon. You can't miss them. I mean it. And that made me think of the kind of wedding photographer who wants to be centre of attention. Honestly, the way some photographers talk about their 'art', you'd think it's *their* special day. Me, I'm like a silver Mondeo. You see, why I love being around people, in large groups I'm actually quite a shy person. I kind of just blend into the background, and nobody pays me much attention. Like a silver Mondeo. And that's fine by me, and particularly good news for you. Because it allows me to take intimate, natural and personal wedding photos while people are unaware. And I bet you probably prefer natural photos to awkward and posed ones. Warmly, Andrew P.S. If you've rather have a silver Mondeo photographer than a pink Range Rover photographer, zoom on over to http://www.boutique-photography.com/availability.html. Two simple questionsHi Andrew, I'm working on something at the moment and I wondered if you could help me. You see, I'm putting something together and I'm a bit stuck! What I need to know is: 1. What three things would describe your ideal wedding photos? 2. What have been your three biggest challenges when looking for a wedding photographer? If you reply to this, I'll get back to you with some advice. Warmly, Andrew P.S. I know you're probably very busy planning your wedding, but if you could help me out on this I'd be very grateful. Thanks! Disturbing Things I Do at WeddingsWell today's title should wake a few people up this morning, don't you think? Here's a list of disturbing things I *would* do at weddings... ...IF I was like one of the many FAUXtographers out there. So... 1. I would make the bride 90 minutes late for her wedding (true story); 2. I would try to make the bride do a garter shot in front of all her wedding guests, when she's clearly shy and uncomfotable and keeps on saying 'no' (true story); 3. I would spend ages doing elaborate posed photos and annoy the venue staff by moving furniture around, annoy your friends and family by taking up too much of your valuable time, and annoy your caterers by making dinner late (true story); 4. I would do irrepairable damage to the digital files and delete the originals, so there's nothing I could do about it (true story); 5. I would make you wait over a YEAR to see your photos and deliver your album (true story). These are the kinds of horror stories people tell me when I say I'm a wedding photographer. It seems not many people have a good experience with their wedding photographer. Except for *my* clients, of course. In fact, one bride was so delighted, she wrote this... "If you are finding it hard to choose a photographer and want to speak with me in person about my experience of using Andrew, then let him know and he can put us in touch." That's from Philly, who's wedding I shot a few years ago. (And this year I had the pleasure of photographing her first baby - something that's going to happen more and more as several of my wedding clients are now having babies!) So, if you'd like to speak to Philly about her experience of working with me (and how I don't do any of the things in the list above), simply leave your details here and I'll put you in touch.
